Customs prescriptions

• Shippers will be allowed to import either surface or airfreight shipments of households and personal effects for domestic use only.
• Shipments must arrive in Uruguay within 180 days from clients arrival in the country.
• Duty free entry whether used or new.

Returning Uruguayan citizen and / or foreign citizen with legal residence visa

Uruguayan citizens returning home must submit customs authorities proof of permanent residence abroad for a mínimum period of one year.

Foreigh citizen WITHOUT legal residence

All foreign citizens who wish to enter personal effects must have applied for residence in Uruguay but must submit a guarantee before customs until permanent residence is obtained. This guarantee will be reimbursed once obtained legal residence.

Motor vehicles

Uruguayan citizens

• Any Uruguayan with more tan 2 years of residence in a foreign country , who decides to definitely return to Uruguay, will be able to introduce for one time only free of any Exchange and exempt of customs duties , taxes or connectes charges, a car of her/his property.
• The vehicle cannot be sold nor transferred by a period of four years since the return to Uruguay.
• Uruguayan diplomats are not authorized to import vehicles.

Foreign citizens

• Are not allowed to import cars.

• Firearms.
• Medicine, narcotics and drugs.
• Plants and seeds.
