A 12% duty is applied to household goods shipments based on the value determined by the Peruvian customs authorities after a physical inspection of the shipment, which is usually lower than the actual price of the goods.
For returning Peruvian citizens, the import duties are the same as for foreigners, except for household goods previously exported from Peru, which are duty-free.
To pay the 12% duty, returning Peruvian citizens must prove at least 13 continuous months of living abroad without visiting Peru for more than 30 days (consecutive or non-consecutive) during that period.
