Who can move internationally to Panama?

The importation of used household goods and personal effects is allowed duty and tax-free to:

• Returning Panamanian citizens
• Foreign citizens with work visas
• Foreign citizens with a special retirement visa
• Foreign citizens with investor visa
• Foreign diplomats
• Foreign citizens with a reforestation project visa

IMPORTANT: Personal effects must be entered within six months of the owner's last entry into Panama. The applicant must be in Panama upon the arrival of personal effects and household goods. If tariffs and taxes are required for the entry of new articles, they will be established in accordance with the invoices or the import tariff in force at the moment of the transaction.

We also inform you that the Panamanian authorities are applying a new pest control procedure to all household goods shipments. This means that all containers, ground shipments, and air freight entering Panama are fumigated at the port of entry or customs bonded terminal.
